=== Midlife isolation === After the break between Jung and Freud in 1913, Jung went through a pivotal psychological transformation, and, after the Munich congress, he was on the verge of a psychosis.This was exacerbated by the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914. Jung described the experience as a horrible "confrontation with the unconscious". He saw visions and heard voices. He worried at times that he was "menaced by a psychosis" or was "doing a schizophrenia". These experiences precipitated his writing of his Red Book, his seven-volume personal diaries that were only published partially and posthumously in 2009. In his crisis, Jung gave up his lectureship at the University of Zürich, although he continued his private practice in Küstnacht until his death in 1961. Jung spoke at meetings of the Psycho-Medical Society in London in 1913 and 1914. His travels were soon interrupted by the war, but his ideas continued to receive attention in England primarily through the efforts of Constance Long, who translated and published the first English volume of his collected writings. As well as his eventual break from Freud, Jung's publication of Psychology of the Unconscious in 1913 resulted in many of Jung's friends and colleagues dropping away and declaring him a mystic. This book was Jung's first publication, which represented his individual point of view and declared the difference between psychoanalysis and analytic psychology.
==== 2017 boycott in China ==== A 2017 article in The New York Times said that anti-Korean sentiment in China had risen after South Korea's acceptance of the deployment of THAAD in South Korea. Government-run Chinese news media encouraged the boycott of South Korean goods, and some Chinese nationalists vowed not to eat kimchi. The move was criticized by other Chinese nationalists, who noted that China officially considered Koreans an integral ethnic group in the multinational state, and that kimchi is also indigenous to the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture.
During sample preparation, the sample buffer, and thus SDS, is added in excess to the proteins, and the sample is then heated to 95 °C for five minutes, or alternatively 70 °C for ten minutes. This consists of proteins of known sizes and thereby allows the estimation (with an error of ± 10%) of the sizes of the proteins in the actual samples, which migrate in parallel in different tracks of the gel. Aguillard ==== Following the McLean ruling, which declared the teaching of "creation science" in public schools to be an unconstitutional establishment of religion, Louisiana's version of the "Equal Time" legislation was put to the test. This time, Wendell Bird was deputized by the state and ran the state's defense of the law. Dean Kenyon was advertised as the creationists' lead expert witness, however the case (which eventually became Edwards v. Aguillard when it reached the Supreme Court) was decided by summary judgment, and so never went to a full trial. Nevertheless, in written briefs and in his oral arguments, Bird relied heavily on an expert witness affidavit written by Kenyon. This affidavit is online at the TalkOrigins website. It was entered into evidence in the Kitzmiller case as evidence that Kenyon was explicitly defending "creation science"—and advocating that it be given equal time in public schools and textbooks as the "only" alternative to evolution—while at the same time working on a public school textbook, which eventually became the first "intelligent design" book, Of Pandas and People. In 1987, in Edwards v. Aguillard the Supreme Court heard a case concerning a Louisiana Law that required "creation science" be taught on an equal basis with evolution in public schools. Anti-creationists argued that this was illegal on the basis that it violated the Establishment Clause of the US Constitution. === Spain === Since the 2008–2014 Spanish financial crisis began, Spain had had one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe, reaching a eurozone record of 21.3%. The number of unemployed people in Spain stood at 4,910,200 at the end of March 2011, up about 214,000 from the previous quarter, while the youth unemployment rate stands at 43.5%, the highest in the European Union. In September 2010 the government approved a sweeping overhaul of the labour market designed to reduce unemployment and revive the economy. Large trade unions such as CCOO and Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT), among other minor ones, rejected the plan because it made it easier and cheaper for employers to hire and fire workers. Trade unions called for the first general strike in a decade, on 29 September 2010. The anti-austerity movement in Spain, also referred to as the 15-M Movement and the Indignados Movement, was a series of protests, demonstrations, and occupations against austerity policies in Spain that began around the local and regional elections of 2011 and 2012. First starting on 15 May 2011, many of the subsequent demonstrations spread through various social networks such as Real Democracy NOW (Spanish: Democracia Real YA) and Youth Without a Future (Spanish: Juventud Sin Futuro). The investigation by Science and the NIH was triggered by whistleblowers who delivered a 113 page dossier to Science. The dossier presented evidence that patients treated with 3K3A-APC died at a higher rate in the first week following treatment than those on the placebo (6 out of 66 versue 1 out 44). Also, patients on the drug suffered more disability. The dossier also claimed that data had been doctored in dozens of papers from Zlokovic's lab. Wade Smith, a University of California, San Francisco neurologist and StrokeNet principal investigator said that “I think pausing the trial until any impact of potential impropriety in preclinical drug testing is resolved to ensure the compound is safe for humans is the correct pathway to follow. This drug may work in humans so discarding it would be a shame,” he adds. “Alternatively, moving forward with a compound that may be unsafe is worse.”
